Trea Rice & Dual It My Way marking a 219 @ The Summer Spectacular 2011

THE CAMINO DEL NORTE OR THE NORTHERN WAY

The Camino del Norte or the Northern Way is a route along the Northern coast of Spain, hence its name. It starts in the town of Irun, near the French border and follows the Atlantic coast through the Basque country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia.

Compared to the more popular Camino Frances, the Camino del Norte is more scenic and the pilgrim has a more solitary experience here. In terms of facilities, there are less albergues here, especially in the first half of the journey but things improve once one reaches Asturias and especially Galicia.

The northern coast of Spain is greener due to higher precipitations in the area so a pilgrim must be prepared for more rain on this route. But the rain will be certainly compensated by the lush green hills and mountains, especially the Picos de Europa in Asturias. Many stretches of the camino are next to the sea and you will have the occasion to dip into the sea in the summer months in some unspoilt beaches.

Waymarking is generally good, although in the Basque country it is sometimes rare. As you progress and you reach Galicia, the waymarking is outstanding.

It is best to choose the Camino del Norte during the summer months of July and August if you want to have a chance to swim in the ocean. It is otherwise very wet and cold around here.

Combe Martin Exmoor National Park Walks, South West Coast Path Walks, North Devon Walks, England, UK

Combe Martin Walk was about 5 miles in distance and included Little Hangman, Great Hangman in Exmoor National Park on the South West Coast Path. The terrain of the route was a combination of coastal path, field paths, enclosed paths, tracks and quiet lanes. The walking was on undulating ground with one steep ascent. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. Do not be deceived by the shortness of this walk as it is quite strenuous in places, particularly the initial ascent to Little Hangman. There was just 1 stile to negotiate.

Grosses Übeltal

As far as I know there is no video on Youtube depicting the mixed climb of Grosses Übeltal (2018). Here is the missing piece. Rax - Grosses Übeltal/The Evil Valley. Elevation gain of some 1000m. No visible waymarking. Scrambling the scree, climbing on mixed terrain: routes difficulty I-II and steep steep ascend. We didn't take the usual Wassergraben exit direction, took the so called 'Variante 27'. Hard work.

Shugborough Park Sherbrook Valley Walk, Cannock Chase Walks In Staffordshire, England, UK

Shugborough Park Sherbrook Valley Walk was about 7 miles in distance around Cannock Chase on Boxing Day. The terrain of the route was a combination of woodland and heathland tracks and paths with some road sections, a tarmac driveway and a towpath. The walking was easy on level ground or gentle slopes. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. There were no stiles to negotiate.

Looking for a walking route in the United Kingdom (UK)? Rich Walking creates quality video slideshows that are freely viewable on YouTube. I have been creating these videos since 2009.

Every walking video is produced after experiencing the walk myself. I always welcome comments, feedback & suggestions and you can engage with me on social media.

I provide two main types of video slideshow for various locations within the UK, with background music which is slightly upbeat and relaxing:

1 - Day Walking Routes - These show you mainly the route terrain you will experience on the walk.

2 - Day Walk Scenery - These show you just the scenery you will see on the walk.

Now, thanks to YouTube, I am able to share my ideas with the world.
