Brazil vs. USA | Craziest Comeback in Volleyball History | HD

Goiania, Brazil, June 3, 2018 - Isac Santos smashed home a dramatic match winning ace as Brazil sensationally came from two sets down to send the USA crashing to their first VNL defeat and seal an epic 3-2 triumph (21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 20-18). Wallace was again the leading marksman for the Olympic champions, whacking down 18 spikes, two blocks and an ace to help the Brazilians leapfrog their rivals and move into joint-top place alongside Poland.

Mauricio Silva was also a constant threat with 13 spikes, five blocks and two aces but the Americans will be wondering long into the night how they let this one slip having established such a dominant lead.

Matthew Anderson’s 23 points (22 spikes and an ace) together with sterling efforts from Aaron Russell (16 points) and Thomas Jaeschke (18 points) were the foundations of a typically robust US display, though 40 errors from their side of the net ultimately cost them dear as did having to endure two long, emotional five set matches following their thrilling escape against Japan on Friday.

With news filtering through of Poland’s surprise defeat to Germany, the US knew a straight-sets triumph would be enough to send John Speraw’s team to the top of the VNL heading into the third week of competition.

Yet when the two best sides on the planet lock horns, it’s never straightforward.

The US certainly deserved their two set lead - Anderson was spiking with serious force while Jeffrey Jendryk was a constant in defense.

A packed home crowd certainly loved the opening exchanges although tensions boiled over at 21-19 in the first. A disputed call by the Brazilians was unable to be contested as all the video challenges had been used.

Cue a furious row between Lipe, Wallace - Brazil’s most potent threat once again - and referee Luis Gerardo Macias which resulted in the former receiving a yellow card. Replays showed the call was indeed correct yet the Olympic champions were still furious.

There was more arguing at 24-12 - this time Macias was unsure himself and used the technology but the point went to the US as did the first set.

Coach Sperow urged his side - for whom Anderson had already racked up five spikes and an ace - to target Lipe who was struggling to keep his cool in the red hot heat of battle.

The US , however, just blocked everything out and continued to forge ahead. Wing spiker Thomas Joeschke was getting in on the act, a fearsome spike extended his side’s lead to 15-10 and although Isac was blocking well, Brazil were unable to stop their rivals from doubling their lead.

Ironically it was a Lipe error when he got in Isac’s way which sealed the second set.

Brazil had to improve or risk sliding to their second defeat of the VNL - and so it proved.

The excellent and consistent Wallace - two scorching spikes conjured up two set points which were saved before another hammer finish was sent long by the American defense - was the inspiration but Lipe’s ability to regain his composure was also key.

You could just feel the momentum swinging towards the men in yellow and although the match was very much in the balance at 9-9, once Brazil started to extend their lead thanks to some impressive team cohesion, we were all treated to a box office fifth and decisive set.

At 7-4 , Renan Dal Zotto’s side were looking like favorites to win this epic contest. A huge Anderson block brought it back to 8-6 and that reignited Speraw’s men to edge ahead 11-10 with captain David Smith also bringing his defensive skills to the table.

Patch served hopelessly long at match point and then Jaeschke hit the net. Three match points were saved by Brazil in a breathless ending before a magical stuff block from Wallace gave the home team their first chance to win the match - only for Anderson to save the day once again.

Another match point went begging for Brazil but then Isac sent the Goiania Arena crazy with that final ace.

Milan, Italy, June 23, 2019 - After a battle of 2 hours and 46 minutes, Poland confirmed their strength by defeating Italy in the tiebreaker. After a point-to-point fight, Italy surrendered against the world champions.

Gianlorenzo Blengini, Head Coach of Italy: If we want to see the glass half full, we can say that the team was able to react in various situations, which is a good mindset. Of course we are sorry because we lost the match: in these situations the details make the difference, and tonight we were not precise enough.

Simone Giannelli, Captain of Italy: The final result is a pity because we did our best to win the match. Anyway playing this match was amazing, a great emotion. We were maybe a bit naive and not very focused in the right moments. At the end, always a couple of points make the difference.

Vital Heynen, Head Coach of Poland: I really wanted three tie breaks in three days and that happened. I wanted my guys not to give up, they did it. I am really proud of them, but we cannot say we are stronger than Italy, just because of this match.

Aleksander Sliwka, outside hitter of Poland: We stayed focused till the end. It was important for us to be hungry. It was a tough situation to handle because we lost some important points, but we never lost our concentration. I am really proud of my team because we fought till the end. Three tie-breaks in three matches, that demonstrates we want to do our best.

Varna, Bulgaria, September 21, 2018 - Argentina delivered one of the biggest surprises at the 2018 FIVB World Championship! The South Americans defeated the unstoppable Polish machine by 3-2 (16-25, 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 16-14) in the Palace of Culture and Sports.

The players coached by the legendary Julio Velasco lost the opening set, but were absolutely brilliant and achieved their third victory versus this opponent in the history of this major volleyball event!

In the opening set the current World Champions took the control on the field from the very first point and won it by 25-16.

Jakub Kochanowski topped the list of the Polish scorers with 5 points, whereas Bartosz Kurek, Artur Szalpuk and Aleksander Sliwka added 4 points each.
The second set was a completely different story. Argentinians stabilized their reception, the outside-spikers were brilliant in attack and led them to a 3-point advantage (17-14). The South Americans continued to play better and increased their lead by 20-15. In the end Pablo Crer was unstoppable in the middle and after an unforced Polish error in attack, Argentina won the set by 25-19.

Julio Velasko’s players made the perfect start in the third set and took an early 4-point advantage (8-4). A few minutes later Tomas Lopes and Jose Luis Gonzalez collided when trying to safe a ball near the net and Jose left the field with an injury. Despite this, Argentina managed to win the set by 25-23 after a perfect spike by Lisandro Zanotti.

In the fourth set Poland started to play a little bit better and the South Americans took a huge 3-point advantage (20-17). Despite this, in the end Damian Schulz stole the show with his powerful serve and Poland made a great come back, winning the set by 25-23.

Despite the end of the fourth set, Argentinians started pretty well the tie-break and were 3 points ahead (6-3). With a good block Poland managed to come back, making the result 9-8. A few minutes later the first referee of the match Ramirez Ortiz made two controversial decisions after repeated video checks. After them Poland were really close to make their 100th victory in the history of the World Championship (14-12). However, in the end the Argentinians showed great character and achieved a remarkable win after 16-14!

Cristian Poglajen topped the list of the scorers with 14 points for the winners! For Poland Artur Szalpuk finished with 19.

Julio Velasco, head coach of Argentina: „I am so happy because we won a very difficult match. I saw some controversial situations but we continued to play inspite of them. I am very, very proud of my team! It is practically impossible to qualify for the next round but we are here to give our best and play for the honor of our country. We were in the similar situation 4 years ago when we beat USA even we did not have a chance to qualify and now we did the same against Poland. This is the sport!”

Luciano De Cecco, captain of Argentina: “We wanted to win, we fought every set and we did it. I think we played an amazing game. We went on the field today for fun, to relax, to play our volleyball. We made some really good points. May be in the fourth set Poland made three really good serves and changed the result but in the tie-break we did a really good job. We enjoyed this game. We will come tomorrow to fight against Serbia and to try to make the best volleyball again.”

Vital Heynen, head coach of Poland: „It was a tough game. Both the teams were very close to the win. We can say that Argentina was a little bit more lucky but I tnink they won the tie-break because they were better. We had our chances but we were not using them at the end. Now we have a couple of hours to prepare for our next game tomorrow. This is the situation when you have 4 good teams in a pool. Sometimes you lose! It is part of life!”

Dawid Konarski, player of Poland: „We had our chances to stay undefeated and to get at least 2 points out of the game which were very important. We started well and easily won the first set. But then something happened and we began to make a lot of mistakes. We are dissapointed for sure but we have everything in our hands in the upcoming matches. I hope we will win them.”

Yuki Ishikawa's athleticism is UNBELIEVABLE! ???? | Monster of Vertical Jumps | Volleyball

Japan's Yuki Ishikawa began playing volleyball at his elementary school. From an early age, he knew how to lead a team to victory and captured triple crowns for two years in a row while attending Seijo High School. At age 18, he was a rookie sensation with Chuo University, making him an easy pick for the national team coach. The Outside Spiker made his debut with Japan’s national team at the 2014 Asian Games. His outstanding court sense, athleticism, and refined technique catapulted him into the volleyball limelight and secured his place as one of the most dependable players in the Japanese squad. At 192 centimetres tall, Ishikawa is smaller than many players in his position, but his exceptional leaping ability and punchy spiking regularly confound opposing defenders.
