World Vale Tudo Championship 1

The World Vale Tudo Championship, or WVC, was a no holds barred-style MMA fighting promotion based in Brazil. The promotion was founded by Brazilian promoter Frederico Lapenda. It debuted at NK Hall Bay auditorium in Japan to a packed house, but future shows would all take place in Brazil.
The WVC helped to launch the careers of MMA stars such as Pedro Rizzo, Mark Kerr, Heath Herring, Igor Vovchanchyn, and many others. Many WVC fighters went on to fight in either the UFC or for the PRIDE promotion in Japan.

The main event pitted the previous two WVC tournament winners against each other - Pedro Rizzo and Richard Red Heard. The result was an epic battle between the man known as The Rock, who would go on to make waves in the UFC, and the tough as nails, blue collar Red Heard, who upset and surprised many at the first WVC, taking the crown

Interview and 50 minute Vale Tudo fight: Rinaldo Santos vs. Carlos Henrique ( Bigu Branco)

Professor Rinaldo Santos is a 4th degree Black Belt under the legendary Master Carlson Gracie Sr. The beginnings of what we know today as MMA began in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as Vale Tudo. Unlike MMA of today most Vale Tudo matches had no rules, no time limits, no gloves, and were no holds barred. The matches were extremely dangerous and it was not uncommon for fighters to get seriously hurt. At the age of 18, and as only a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Rinaldo Santos had his first closed door Vale Tudo fight against a older and more experienced street fighter named Carlos Henrique aka Bigu Branco. This fight was even bigger than the fighters because it was ultimately a match up between BJJ and Luta Livre, which were the two leading fighting styles in Rio de Janeiro at the time. Professor Rinaldos interview talks about the fight, the gym where it was held, and some of famous MMA personalities who were there to coach and witness the 50 minute fight, like Carlson Gracie Sr., Luiz Carlos Dias (Manimal) , Amaury Bitetti and Marco Ruas. Rinaldo also talks about how the segments of the fight later made its way to the USA compliments Renzo Gracie's BJJ Instructional Video , as well as how he and Master Carlson Gracie later played a pivotal role in ending the rivalry between Luta Livre and BJJ by helping to corner Hugo Duarte in Pride 4 in Japan. This interview and and the fight are truly a part of the rich history of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
