Women's 3000m Steeplechase Final | World Athletics Championships Doha 2019

Welcome to the World Athletics Watch Party, join the conversation on Twitter with our hashtag #WatchWorldAthletics.

Two years since a mid-race blunder cost her the chance of a medal, Beatrice Chepkoech made no such mistakes tonight and produced one of the most dominant steeplechase performances in World Championships history.

The world record-holder from Kenya had honed her tactics throughout the season on the IAAF Diamond League circuit, finding an approach that worked for her. Even without the help of a pacemaker, she was able to employ the same tactic in Doha tonight.

Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

Men's 3000m Steeplechase Final | World Athletics Championships Doha 2019

Welcome to the World Athletics Watch Party. Remember you can join the conversation on Twitter using the #WatchWorldAthletics hashtag.

Before heading to the World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, the defending Conseslus Kipruto had raced just four times this year. He failed to finish two of those races and had finished fifth in and seventh at the Paris and Lausanne Diamond Leagues.

The likes of world silver medallist Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco, Diamond League winner Getnet Wale of Ethiopia, Kenyan champion Benjamin Kigen and Lamecha Girma appeared to be the in-form athletes throughout the season and they all navigated their way through to the final without much fuss. Watch to see how the race unfolded.

Evan Jager's dramatic fall in the steeplechase at Paris 2015 - Flashback

At the Paris leg of the 2015 IAAF Diamond League, Evan Jager was out to break the eight minute barrier, and as he turned on to the home straight, it looked like nothing could stop the American.

The world watched in shock as Jager clipped the final barrier with his trailing foot and stumbled as he hit the track. Though he recovered quickly from his fall, the USATF star couldn't quite make up the lost time, clocking 8:00.45, a bittersweet American record.
