New Land Speed Record Set By Donald Campbell - 403mph (1964) | Sporting History

Campbell was a British speed record breaker who is the only person to have set both world water and land speed records in the same year (1964). On 17 July 1964, Campbell set a new world land speed record of 403.10mph for a four-wheeled car (Class A) at Lake Eyre, Australia. He was however disappointed with the record as his Norris Brothers designed Bluebird-Proteus CN7 had been constructed to reach speeds of 500mph. Campbell went on that year to set another water speed record at 276.33mph. Campbell was killed whilst attempting to set his 8th water speed record in 1967.

Hiro Koiso Land Speed Record:Bonneville Stories

Hiro Koiso sets a new AMA and FIM records at the 2013 BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Hiro very possibly the story that most exemplifies what Bonneviile is all about. After he crashed his bike in 2010, Hiro loaned Roger Golhammer's team his entire engine that Hiro had worked on for a year and they watched Jimmy Paulgaard run it for a land speed record. That kind of unselfishness and camaraderie is what makes the BUB event so special. Scooter Grubb ScooterShoots.com

Marlow’s Bloodhound Land Speed Record Parachute Brake rope System footage

Here is fascinating footage from the November Land Speed record trials which shows the deployment of the parachute braking system engineered and spliced in Marlow’s factory for the The Bloodhound Project Land Speed Record.

Marlow has been working with the Bloodhound team to develop this specialist parachute system which includes a 32mm Nylon 12 strand main parachute strop and a Technora ‘weak link’ assembly to join the strops to the car. This allows the Bloodhound car to slow its eye-watering speed once it reaches its 500mph land speed goal.

The Drayson Racing FIA World Land Speed Record

Drayson Racing is proud to announce that it has set a new World Electric Land Speed Record of 204.185mph.

Former science minister, businessman and racing driver Lord Drayson was behind the wheel of the Drayson B12 69/EV electric Le-Mans PrototypeIn near perfect conditions, the Oxford-based sustainable motorsport company smashed the previous 175mph record, which had stood for nearly forty years, by 29.2mph.

As the new world record holder, Lord Drayson commented:
I'm delighted we've beaten the record tonight and can show the world EVs can be fast and reliable. Drayson Racing is a laboratory for EV technology, testing it to the most extreme level, as we've seen today.

It is not the outright speed of 204.185mph that is most impressive about this record, but the engineering challenge of accelerating a 1000kg electric vehicle on a short runway over a measured mile. However I've got a great team and world-class partners, such as QualcommHalo, Michelin, Multimatic and Cosworth.

This is a true celebration of Britain's leading position within the burgeoning electric vehicle industry and I'm delighted to be at the forefront of this electric revolution. We hope to set more records tomorrow.

Drayson Racing is a research and development business, pioneering the development of sustainable technologies in the challenging environment of motorsport. With the electric land speed record it intends to showcase what is possible with an electric drivetrain and underscore Britain's leadership position in the EV industry.
