Show #9 - USCG Aux FREE Boating Classes & Safety Tips - (TLC 1987 - 1990)

This Captain's Log TV Show has the swimwear segment, the Original Open and some Old Ads that were edited out when airing on TLC. These original edit shows only aired on the Pilot Run in CA in 1987 (with the old opens and swimwear segments included). They all aired on TLC from 1987 to 1990 with the new open, new ads (and I aired some of the old ads like Catalina etc) and without any swimwear segments.

This is Show #9 of five 1/2 hr shows that I shot in 3 hrs on the second day of filming. It was also the first TV show I ever created, wrote, produced and hosted.

Captain's Log with Captain Mark Gray is a Boating Safety TV series that aired nationwide - weekly - primetime on TLC (The Learning Channel) from 1987 to 1990.

Shooting Day # 2 - Show # 9 = (#8 of 6,7,8,9, & 10)

* I set up and produced 5 shows a week, shooting and hosting the FIVE - 1/2 hr live shows - in 3 hrs on location every Saturday - (3 cameras, live edit to tape remote studios) - reduced my cost by 80% but made me one very tired guy :-)

The following is the gobbly goop for the insiders that basically says, I worked very hard and even dumped my own trash as a 1 man show vs being a mega production. All with zero training and zero money except for having watched TV, once or twice and learning that the ads pay all of the bills (if you are lucky). Things were very expensive before the Internet. Running up and paying $3,000 a month for my phone bill alone was just a small part of it. Today any kid with a camera and Internet (and an idea) can instantly have an international show / series for the cost of Internet (and that is just to upload it and then it is free to keep up and to view).

Here is the inside goop for my Old Timer peers to enjoy:

All 20 shows only took 1 month to set up the production: Pre-sell the sponsors / advertisers and produce all of their ads - book the production crew and equipment as well as the pilot run airtime [primetime and major channels 2-13, from Santa Barbara CA down to LA and out to Bakersfield] and another 4 Saturdays (one month) to shoot the series (shooting five live 1/2 hr live shows back to back with a 5 minute break between them),,, and then another 3 years to continue to produce ie: Develop and maintain advertisers and work with TLC and the boating industry etc...). Hard work, lots of luck and God makes the world go around and this project come to pass. Thanks to everyone willing to be on the show and at TLC etc! They are the show!
