Dumog, filipino wrestling martial art - part 1

Discover our Filipino Martial Arts documentary :

The Dumog is the Filipino Martial Arts Grappling. Note that the word is used in Dumog Mindanao (south) and in the Visayas (center).

I had the pleasure to train many times with master Frank Sobrino during my various trips in the Philippines. After a course of traditional Arnis Kali, one of his friends arrived and decided to show me the Dumog, the wrestling of the Philippines.

Note that Master Sobrino was part of the SWAT Special Forces intervention in Manila.

getting into a dominat position will make it easier to perform joint locks chokes and takedowns with less risk of getting hurt.
dumog is the wrestling style of Philippines martial arts but Kali Kombatan style uses alot of its stand up grappling arm locks chokes and clinch work because it is used for combat where there may be many oponants in a tribe vs tribe situation
Dumog is based on the concept of “control points” or “choke points” on the body, which are manipulated – grabbing, pushing, pulling - in order to disrupt the opponent’s balance creates opportunities for close quarter striking using head butts, knees, forearms and elbows.#Dumog joint-locking and choking, as well as takedowns, throws and submission holds #FMA techniques. Pain compliance is an important aspect of any #grappling art. Hence, Dumog techniques can be complimented by nerve point attacks,

Pangkamut/Panantukin/Dumog basics seminar 2018

This was taught at our annual Jeet Kune Do and Wing Chun seminar, though this year, I wanted to change it and show the reason why so many Jeet Kune Do people took to Filipino Martial Arts. I think you will see it in this video. I will be doing some follow up workshops on this subject soon. I am trying on my end to preserve the ancient ways of FMA's so it does not get watered down. I am seeing that happen already. :)

The O.P.F. System includes, among other elements, techniques, principles and concepts from Dumog, the Philippine version of Grappling, which, combined with JKD, offers a complete and effective combat system, targeted at law enforcement, and also adapted for civilian use. In this new DVD, focused on the civilian version of Dumog, we study the techniques that allow to stop the strength of the opponent, acting with fists, elbows, head, etc. on vital anatomical points in the nervous system. Once again, Oliva deepens in the concepts and applications of JKD, developing new ways that allow us to acquire technical knowledge, extremely effective and lethal for the opponent.

Panantukan Dumog & Lockflow

This is a short demonstration of Panantukan techniques, involving Dumog (Filipino wrestling) and wrist / arm lock flow. The grappling and arresting techniques in Filipino Martial Arts can only take place after the opponent has been struck repeatedly, or what we refer to as 'tenderized'. Please note that this is a demonstration only and not indicative of a real combat situation.

Dumog Kali Kalasag

Il Gran Master Di Kali Kalasag Vito Lettieri ci mostra il Dumog la lotta del Kali Kalasag.

Kali/Dumog lock flow taught by Ron Kosakowski

Locking with a weapon should appear incidentally or accidentally. Looking for it is having a goal in a combat situation, which is not good to have. Free flowing to find what appears without a goal in mind is what martial arts is all about. Here we teach everything with a patterned flow, into potential follow-ups in case of failure. Going from learning the technique, into a flow then trying it during random live play is how you develop the reflex to find these moves. Pain and leverage compliance is the obvious feature that makes this kind of stuff work in a real battle with weapons involved, or even empty handed. Repetition is the essence of gaining martial art reflex development.
