2014 Foot Locker Cross Country Girls National Championship HD

The 2014 Foot Locker Cross Country Championship featured the 40 fastest girl cross country runners in the nation. The race was held December 13, 2014 at Balboa Park in San Diego, CA.

Cross Country Running - Race Strategy

This is what the great cross country runners do during a race.

1. Cross Country Runners use their team mates during a race, and XC runners use other teams or other runners during a race. You can work together or you can draft off another runner.

2. CC Running Race Tip number two. Run the curves smart. If you have two turns in a row, run the tangent. That means, take the shortest route possible for every bend and series of curves. Stay on the inside of the curve.

3. Pick a place to make some surges. The easiest places, although CC running is never easy, is at the bottom of a hill, or around a blind turn. Push the pace to pass people or to separate from another runner.

4. Kick earlier. To run a great time, try pushing it and sprinting earlier than you normally would. You might surprise yourself.

Workout Wednesday: Oklahoma Men Tackle Thunder Road

First-year coach Kevin Ondrasek had Dylan Blankenbaker (4th at NCAAs in the steeple), Eric Aldritt (179th at '15 NCAA XC), Liam Meirow (215th at '15 NCAA XC), Alonzo Chavez, Dan Schubert, and Brendan Taylor do an upbeat 12 miler. On a very hilly 12-mile loop, they started at 5:45 and cranked the pace down to 5:18 for the 11th and 12th miles.

Here are four fantastic Pack Running ideas for Cross Country Runners. Your team will dominate with these tips!

1. Find teammates that have the same ability level as you to race with. Talk to these teammates before the race so you can set your goals for not only your finish time, but also for the mile splits. This way you can work together from section to section of the race.

2. Set a goal time for the first mile and don't go out too hard. You want to stick with your pack of runners so don't get ahead of yourself right at the start. Don't sprint out right away. Stay with the pack and move forward together.

3. Move up after the mile mark. This is the most important part of pack running. You have to run strong and pass people up the rest of the way. Use your pack to swallow up other runners and pass them. I call this Eat 'em up. Have runners go around both sides of your competitors.

4. Take turns as leader of the pack. This is huge because it allows you to push the pack, and then you can also hang onto other leaders as they push the pace.

I hope these cross country running tips will help you and your team. Now pack it up and dominate your next race.
