Toon Van Herreweghen can win his second Leuven Open title. For that he needs to defeat Line Vandamme who has made tremendous progress this year.
This match is to 5 points. The time control is bronstein system with 10 minutes in the bank and 12 seconds per move. Toon is on the left and Line is on the right.

Backgammon final 2013 Belgian Championship. Guy Van Middelem vs Geert Van der Stricht.

Third set to 11 points in a best of 5 format. Geert is leading two sets to zero.
This set was played in front of a live audience in Café Sport in Leuven. The players were sitting in one room and the audience in another room, where they could follow the match which was projected on the wall. Geert and Guy are two seasoned mindgamers.
Geert hast been Belgian chess champion, and Guy is a professional bridge-player.
Geert is the player at the bottom, with the yellow checkers, Guy on top, with the blue checkers.
Unlike most other uploads on my channel, this one has no annotations.

Paulus van Rooijen, the Dutch champion, reached the final because he won all five previous rounds (swiss system). Michel Lamote, number one on the Belgian rating list, fought his way here via a play-off against Luc Palmans.

It was projected on a big screen where everyone could watch and kibitz. The time control is bronstein system, with 12 minutes in the bank and 12 seconds per move. Henri Pollet is on the left, and Patrick De Wilde on the right.

The Story of Frank Sinatra and a Game of Backgammon in Biarritz

The man, the myth, the legend Frank Sinatra was a worldwide phenomenon for almost the entire twentieth century, and his stories, the music and movies will live on for many centuries to come.

One of the stories that will now forever live on is the one of French poker professional Michel Abecassis, who played a few games of backgammon with Sinatra back in 1979 in a fancy Biarritz hotel.

Abecassis told us the fantastic tale of Sinatra, and he explained the love he gained for the man that passed away in 1998.

Johan Segers, member of the team that won the Belgian Interclub 2012, reached the final because he won all five previous rounds (swiss system). Michel Lamote, winner of last year's edition, fought his way here via a play-off against Marius Hentea.
This match is annotated by Michel (Black Speech Bubbles on the right hand side) he shared these insights before looking at computer analysis. I added annotations based on gnubg 4-ply ( You will see that gnubg and Michel don't always agree. There are interesting learning point throughout this video, and a fascinating backgame.

2013 Leuven Open Backgammon. Hypergammon play-off for place in final. Octopussy-style ending.

Patrick De Wilde on the left and Rudy Bertels on the right play one hypergammon game to decide who will join Sassan Kachanian in the final. The clock uses Bronstein system, with 12 seconds per move and 1 minute bank time.
Hypergammon is like normal backgammon, but starting with only three checkers each.
