Polo in Argentina

Celebrating tradition, sport, family and craftsmanship, Polo in Argentina showcases the very best of the sport at the renowned Triple Crown Final in Palermo.

Nick Johnson (Sarasota Polo Club)

Professional videographer Eric Nalpas beautifully captures “a day in the life” of professional polo player Nick Johnson.
Filmed on the picturesque grounds of the Sarasota Polo Club at Lakewood Ranch, the video invites viewers to experience how, for polo players like Johnson, their love of sport goes far beyond a passion for competition. It includes a daily commitment to feeding, grooming and exercising their steeds—and even less-glamorous chores like mucking stalls.
“My hope with the video is to bring a new perspective to polo; to help shed a little bit of that reputation as the “sport of kings” and to show how much everyday care, attention and practice goes into it,” says Nalpas.
“I’ve always been amazed at the level of communication between riders and their horses,” continues Nalpas. “The communication between horse and rider doesn’t begin on the field; it begins in the stable, with the many hours spent caring for and developing a bond with these beautiful animals.”

Ladakh: a Polo Match in Leh with excitement and laughter as the referee falls of his horse

Visiting a polo match in Leh, Ladakh is not a elitist affair but a public festival. The crowd enjoys the game. Widespread Laughter as the arbiter falls of his horse .

Polo originated in Persia (Iran) and was introduced to Ladakh, where it is hugely popular today, from neighbouring Baltistan around the 15th century.

In Ladakh, every major village has a polo ground and the game is an integral part of the cultural fabric of the Ladakhi people where music, especially drums, accompany the scoring of each goal.

The Ladakh Polo Club has seven clubs and is affiliated with the Indian Polo Association.

The game as it is played Ladakh is sometimes called wild polo and different from the one played under international rules.
It's much more furious and free flowing with two twenty minutes halves and a ten minute break in between.

Copenhagen Polo Club - The Player

Polo is all about those moments...

Winston Churchill once said: ”No hour of life is wasted, that is spent in the saddle”.

Every minute I’m out there. Every single swing. I feel truly alive.

It’s physical. But also a game of the mind. Such a powerful feeling.

It’s all about those moments…

When everything just falls into place.

That’s when I feel like a polo player.

Polo is not for everyone. I guess that's why the call it The Sport of Kings...
