Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

10k Training Run - Goal: Sub 38 Minutes - GoPro | Chris PT

Sub 38 minute 10k running first person view with some talk throughout. Moderately hilly 10km road run, sub 4 min km pace, wearing GoPro Hero 4 (Silver) on head strap mount... in light rain. Average 1km split: just over 3 min 45 per km. Useful for treadmill scenery/motivation. Timed using Garmin Forerunner 10 - GPS watch. Autumn (fall) road run - Bromsgrove UK. Although my goal today was to do under 38 minutes, any kind of sub 40 minute 10k would have been ok. (Result: 37:48)
Chris PT: Now mainly sprint training (as of September 2015). Planning to share regular short updates on this and many other aspects of fitness. I've been a promoter of outdoor fitness for many years, including as a personal trainer (qualified in 2007). My other specialisms include intervals and bodyweight/dumbbell resistance workouts. Personal bests include 35 mins 08 for 10 km and 17 min 16 for 5k.

Cotton Row Run 10K 2015, Huntsville, Alabama

See the race from The Hill !

Kenyan native Julius Kogo (#6) wins at 29:34, just missing a course record (and $5000 bounty) by 21 seconds.

Although delayed by more than an hour by a fallen tree, this year's Memorial Day event enjoyed cool, breezy weather.

Video was recorded near mile marker 3 from about the midpoint of The Hill.

Cotton Row Run 10K 2017 *The Hill*, Huntsville, AL

Francis Kamiri had the largest lead I've ever witnessed at the 3 mile mark of the race. Video was shot from the steepest portion of The Hill on Mountainwood Drive. See Tim Kelly as T-Rex near the very end (32:50). Now that looks like torture!

Gleaned from Skip Vaughn at AL.com:
KenyanKenyan dominance continued at the 38th annual Mercedes-Benz Cotton Row Run in Huntsville.

Francis Kamiri (#2147) finished the traditional Memorial Day 10-kilometer race in 30:18. Kenyan Margaret Maina (#16) was the first female finisher in 36:02.

Kenyans have won the last four Cotton Row races, and 17 of the last 20 dating back to 1998.

The race was very easy, Kamiri, 29, of Columbia (S.C.) said. It was easy for me.

After winning a 5K Saturday in Lexington (S.C.), he led today's race from the start. His personal best 10K time is 29:11 from 2013 in Kenya.

The race (today) was fun, he said.

Maina was the first female from the start. Her personal best is 32:07 from 2011 in Paris, France.

I trained for the race (today), and it was not hard, Maina said. It was not a hard course.

She did acknowledge that the infamous hill, on Mountainwood Drive at 2.9 miles, was a very big hill. Maina, 30, who resides in Grand Prairie (Texas) said she will return next year.

Kamiri and Maina each earned $1,200 for their victories. The $5,000 bounty on male and female course records went unpaid. The male record is 29:10 by John Wellerding in 1982, and the female mark is 33:20 by Silvia Skvortsova in 2007.

The top local finishers were Chris Roberts, 21, of Huntsville, who finished second overall in 32:04; and Justyna Mudy-Mader, 32, of Huntsville, the second female, in 36:49.
