254.958kph Speed Ski World Record 2016, Fastest non-motorised humans on the planet.

Ivan Origone and Valentina Greggio of Italy beat the World Record with speeds of 254.958kph (158.424 mph) and 247.038kph (153,502mph).

Two world records were broken today in VARS la Forêt Blanche (France) at the Speedmasters in Speed Ski, a non-FIS event.

Ivan Origone (ITA) broke his brother’s record by 2,5km/h and set a new benchmark at 254,958km/h. His brother, Simone Origone, had held 3 world records since 2006.

The new women’s record holder is also from Italy. Valentina Greggio, who with two World Cup events to go is already the overall FIS Speed Ski World Cup winner, set a new speed record with 247,038km/h and beat the 10 year old record set by Sanna Tidstrand from Sweden.

Thanks MasMovil, Atomic Skiing, GoPro, Leki and Bumpy Films.

High Speed Ski Crash in 4K - Simon Billy Vars 2017 from the 245kmh start.

Simon escaped with only a dislocated elbow and some bruising. The French super star Speed Skier crashed from what was going to be a 245kph start at the World Record attempt.

Don't try this at home, Speed Skiing is great fun, but it has its dangers.

High Speed Ski Crash over 200kph (120mph) Juanki Sanchez

High speed ski crash!!! Juanki Sanchez came down at over 200kph after losing a ski. He was racing with me today in VARS at the World Record attempt on the fastest ski slope on this planet! He miraculously escaped with just burns and bruises from crashing at a speed higher than the terminal velocity of a sky diver!! It’s incredible how he fought to continue on one ski... Could Bode Miller have done better?!

Our helmets are specifically designed so that the outer shell breaks away from the inner helmet, avoiding further injury to the back/shoulder area, it worked perfectly on this occasion. Juanki then took the inner helmet off just as he was sliding to a halt.

We’ll update below how he’s doing.

POV Speed Ski 167kph training in Vars - GoPro data overlays.

Feel the action on board my GoPro camera whilst skiing down the World Record track in France during training. You can see speed, acceleration, G-force, altitude difference and more from the data provided by GoPro's built in GPS.

This is the fastest ski slope on the planet and I was starting about half way down in early season training with perfect snow conditions. It was one of the first times I used the GoPro data overlays and was very impressed by the results!

For this run I was testing a new boot setup and was skiing on my World Cup Speed Ski Atomic skis (2m38 and 96m+ radius). The suit is a standard alpine downhill one, but with my full face helmet.

In The Unrideables: Alaska Range, one of the world's foremost experts on human flight, Jon DeVore, sets out with a team of elite aerial athletes to evolve the sport in North America's most remote and demanding mountain environment. Look for the full-length documentary releasing this January.

Full-Speed Skiing in Uludağ Bursa, Turkey

Music: Haitz - Animal

This video was taken on March 2012. I tried to gain the fullest speed but I was riding with my freestyle skis and I think I couldn't make it because they're not so heavy like racing skis (I should have used my racing skis to do that).
It's funny because in the end of the video I almost got hit by the snow grooming machine but I was lucky.

HIGH SPEED SKI CRASH ON GOPRO

Here is the full version:

Please, note that I would never do that if the slope was not empty. There was several people fallen on ground when I started, so the risk was only for me. Some people will say it is stupid, and maybe it is, but only a man can understand that in some moments of the life, the adrenaline is the only thing that makes you feel alive.

How we train to Ski over 200kph in Andorra 2018

Bastian Montes (Speed Ski World Cup champion '17) and I (overall 9th in the World Cup '17) trained Speed Ski in Granvalira before the first stage of the World Speed Ski Cup 2018.

We had the track to ourselves for 3 days with perfect snow conditions. We both use Atomic 2m38 skis specifically manufactured for skiing above 200kph in a straight line, wind-tight plastic suits and custom built helmets that are designed to open the air flow around our bodies. Our poles, which we use for the initial jump, are also customised by the manufacturers to give us a reference for our aerodynamic position.

Speedriding: The New Frontier | Miles Above: S1E9

Like speedriding? You'll likely dig this:
Time to pack up der trusty Skis und Fallschirme and hitch a ride with Miles and his RBAF compadres to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland and Sulden, Italy; ideal settings for that sphincter-locking, flop sweat-popping fusion of freestyle skiiing + paragliding known as Speed Riding. Then it's over to Crystal Mountain on the fringes of Mt. Ranier National Park to catch RBAF teammates Andy Farrington and Jon Devore as they prep for a super-secret Speed Riding project in the far backwoods of Alaska.
