With the right conditions, xc skiing can be the best way into the backcountry! My goal is to show what's possible with nordic skiing, and maybe redefine how people perceive it. If you like the video, share it! Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Video shot entirely in Alaska, over the course of 5 outings in late April and early May 2016. The specific locations were in the Talkeetna Mountains near Hatcher Pass, and in the Alaska Range off of the Denali Highway in the Amphitheater Mountains. Each day we were out for about three hours and covered on average 40km per day with a minimum 1000m vertical.

Definitely faster than slogging on heavy backcountry gear.

Skiers in order of appearance:
David Norris – overall winner of 2016 American Birkebiner, WC skier
Tyler Kornfield – 2x US National Champion, Sprinting
Myself – I ski sometimes :)
Scott Patterson – 2016 National Champion, Distance, WC skier
Cole Talbot
Andrew Dougherty
Erik Flora – 2013 USOC National Coach of the Year – All sports

Shot on the GoPro Hero 4 Session with PolarPro Filter, mounted to my ski pole, and homemade stabilizer. Sorry for the shake!

Nordic Ski Techniques w/ Billy Demong

Five-time Olympian and World Cup champion Billy Demong's currently kickin' back in Sochi, presumably with a leopard cub on his lap and a coffee-table book of Putin photos in hand, as he waits for the chance to defend his Nordic Combined gold. Before he headed off to the Black Sea, he stopped by the Utah Olympic Park to offer up some pointers on how to improve skate-skiing form. It's not every day that you get tips from an Olympian, so pay careful attention and you'll become a rocket-powered racer before Billy's back in the USA with his next haul of precious medals. - See more at:

Men's team sprint:
Norwegian nordic skier falls, hinders Finish victory! At the finish sprint, the Norwegian trips, falls on Finish nordic skier Niskanen.

LAHTI, Finland. Russia won the men's cross-country skiing team sprint at the world championships Sunday after a dramatic last-lap crash wrecked the chances of the two leading teams. The Norwegian fell, and tripped the Finn. They both landed on the ground. Incredible fail!

Norway's Emil Iversen was fighting for the lead with Finland's Iivo Niskanen but they collided as the Finn moved to overtake on the inside of the final bend. They both fell, and two others could overtake them in the last dramatic seconds.

Sergei Ustyugov took the win for Russia, overtaking Italian Federico Pellegrino on the final stretch to win by 2.2 seconds. Niskanen recovered to take third, 6.5 seconds further back.

It was the second win in two days for Ustyugov, who also won Saturday's skiathlon, and his third medal of the championships.

LAHTI, Suomi. Venäjä voitti miesten hiihto joukkue Sprint MM-kisoissa sunnuntaina dramaattinen viimeisen kierroksen kaatuminen tuhonneet mahdollisuudet kaksi johtavaa joukkuetta. Norja laski, käskee Finn. Molemmat laskeutui maahan. Incredible epäonnistua!

Men 6 x 1.3 km Team Sprint Classic - Semi Finals

Men's Individual 50km - FIS 2017 Nordic World Ski Championships - Lahti, Finland

Cross-country skiing originated in Fennoscandian countries in prehistoric times. It was still widely practiced in the 19th century as a way of moving from place to place in winter. As a sport, cross-country skiing is one of the most difficult endurance sports, as its motions use every major muscle group. Modern cross-country ski competition is experiencing a revolution that is resulting in greater compatibility with audiences which began with the addition of the Sprint event to the World Cup and Olympic competitions in 2002.

Nordic Skiing Freestyle - Amazing Austrian Sportsmen!!

Film by Lukas Doppelreiter

Music by MuteMath (Typical)

I had the chance to hang out with some people from the Austrian Junior Nordic Ski Team in Tauplitz, AUSTRIA for a couple of days to shoot this project!! It was absolutely awesome...I have so much respect of the athletes that I spent my time with! They are some of the hardest workers and self-disciplined people I´ve ever worked with!!

From the technical standpoint...
This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark II, with a Canon 24-105mm F/4 L series lens and a couple of GoPro`s (Hero3 Black&White, Hero2).
