What is field archery?

Field archery is shot in three divisions (compound, recurve and barebow). Archers shoot from marked (known) and unmarked (unknown) distances, from 5 to 60 meters, depending on the division (requires shooting uphill and downhill, often with varying positions for the feet). The arrow flight differs on a given distance because of the angle of the shot, which means that the archer must know by experience how much to subtract or add when shooting up or downhill, across a gully, etc. The size of the target varies (with diameters of 20 -- 40 -- 60 -- 80cm). The target faces have six scoring zones.
At the world championships, in qualifications, archers shoot 24 targets from marked distances and 24 targets from unmarked distances. The top sixteen competitors in each division and class move to the 1/8 elimination round and shoot 12 marked targets. The top eight competitors then advance to the quarterfinals and shoot eight new targets. In the semifinals and medal finals, the top four competitors in each class and division shoot matches consisting of 4 marked targets.

Archery Ireland - National Field Archery Championships 2017

The National Field Archery Championships for 2017 were hosted by the Wicklow Archers in the infamous Dargle Valley field course.. all the classic shots were featured including the Club house shot and the illustrious Cliff shot.

All thanks and praise have to go to Ruairi O'Sullivan, Rohan O'Duill and their team of volunteers who worked tirelessly to get the course out and operational.
