CATCH and COOK | Grill Fish Over Campfire | Ft. Fisherman’s Life

Lots of fun fishing with the best Catch and Cook fisherman Matts Withans aka Fisherman’s Life. We caught two Cabezon and one huge Striped Surf Perch.
We grilled the Perch on a direct fire 🔥 with no seasoning added and surprisingly it tastes good, well except for the skin lol.

Today we head out on the water to catch some crappie for the table!

Neck Deep and Faced Defeat...(Catch and Cook Fail!)

Hope you all had a good memorial day weekend outdoors. Brook and I tried to do some surf fishing off the beach and hopefully catch and cook our dinner. We also brought a crab trap to try and catch speckled (Calico) crabs, but that didn't go as planned. It looked like the tail end of the spring mullet run out there, but both our fishing and catch n cook ended up being fails.

Catch And Cook: 450 Million Year Old Living Fossil - Horseshoe Crab

Catch And Cook: 450 Million Year Old Living Fossil - Horseshoe Crab
The original plan was to do some Blue Crabbing. This would give me a break from fishing and I would also be able to clear out some fish carcasses from my freezer so I could get some ice cream.

Unfortunately, the Blue Crabs were nowhere to be found. Fortunately, a cooperative Horseshoe Crab cruised by and volunteered to be in my video. Horseshoe crab fossils have been found in strata dating back 450 million years ago. The only place that I have seen these eaten were in South East Asia. One of the common recipes seen at the markets was a Horseshoe Crab salad (Yam kai meng da). They basically roast the Horseshoe Crab, dig out the roe and fat and mix with Thai Mango salad. This is all put back into the shell of the crab. Bon Appetit.

One of the BEST fishing experiences of my life

Just three days after a snowstorm blanketed the Deep South, Marsh Man Masson slipped out onto frigid waters that were at their lowest levels of the year. Not sure what he'd find, he ended up catching fish all day, including one that was a first for his career!

Catch And Cook - Snappushi

Catch And Cook - Snappushi
Brought out the bamboo mat in order to make some Mangrove Snapper Sushi rolls. For todays catch and cook, I took the two Mangrove Snappers that I caught under the Shark Channel bridge and fileted them out. Using Tempura mix I fried them and some vegetables. Since we are just starting out I did a really basic mix with Tempura Mangrove Snapper, sliced cucumbers, Avocado, and sesame seeds. It turned out great and much cheaper than getting it at the restaurant.

Catch and Cook Dungeness Crab

We went out crabbing in hoping to catch a lot, but the weather turned bad and we had to quit early. But we managed 3 keepers, which was enough for us to cook with. Cooking crab outside is super easy and fun. I got a portable gas stove for camping and we used orange sparkling water & cajun seasoning for taste. It turned out delicious.

Blackfin Tuna- Catch and Cook!

Hope you all enjoy this Blackfin Tuna catch and cook. The Tuna Recipe came out mighty tasty and especially with those flavorful grill marks. You may have noticed we bleed the tunas by ripping their gills open, as we had no knife on board. Bleeding a fish is common practice, and reduces the fishy taste of fish. Look forward to many more catch n cooks, as well as offshore saltwater fishing videos.

FA Tips and Tackle Extreme Cliff Fishing

Catch and Cook inspired by Fisherman's Life

My first catch and cook of a striped perch, inspired by YouTube channel Fisherman's Life.

Catch And Cook - Surf And Turf Mangrove Snapper.

Catch And Cook - Surf And Turf Mangrove Snapper.
Taking a break from the Tarpon because I am hungry. The winds are back up so decided to hit a very secluded spot that generally is protected regardless of wind condition. I was able to score some Pilchards which was a huge benefit. After launching, I headed to the dug out channels that were made for what must have been a planned residential area that did not get developed. I basically targeted the entrance ways as that tends to be where fish hang out waiting to ambush food getting flushed through. Even in bad conditions, I was able to pull in some pretty good Snappers.

For dinner, I made Mangrove Snapper on the half shell (Filet but leave the skin and scales on.) I am going to be doing some French Dip sandwiches so for the turf I chose a Top Round roast. Sides were a foil baked yam with butter and brown sugar, and a stuffed roasted bell pepper with onions, mushrooms, bacon, and rice.

Catch, Kill, Clean, Cook, Eat - BLACKTIP SHARK

Catch, Kill, Clean, Cook, Eat - Blacktip Shark.
So finally got around to doing a Shark catch and cook. It is going to be a windy weekend, so figured it was a good time to do a bit more complex catch and cook. Although we have quite a few types of Sharks, the Blacktip seemed to be the best option since there is no size limit, they taste good, and I have a good system to catch them. I headed out to my backcountry spot and drifted a live Pinfish under a float. It didn't take long to catch a nice 38 Blacktip. When keeping a Shark, you want to make sure you take the extra steps required to ensure that the meat does not go bad. Because Sharks purge their urine (urea) through their skin, you have to make sure you quickly bleed them out, remove the internal organs especially the urinary tract, and make sure the carcass is put on ice immediately. At that point, you have a wide variety of options in regards to preparation.

For todays video and because of the size of the Shark, I decided to do a couple of different recipes. For tonight, I was going to marinade the Shark steaks. I did one in a Italian salad dressing marinade and the other in a Asian Thai style. They both came out amazing.

Tomorrow, I am going to be smoking the rest and making some Shark dip.
